Harold's AI Odyssey
Harold's AI Odyssey
Description:
Ever wonder what would happen if you let artificial intelligence create an RPG but then lampooned the very game it was making in real time? Well, Frogboy did and the end result is Harold's AI Odyssey!
Story Overview:
The game follows Harold, a legendary hero who vanished a year ago during Harold Game Jam 2023, leaving his friends Therese, Marsha, and Lucius to fend off threats in his absence. Now, Harold has returned, stronger and more determined, but what exactly happened to him during that time? Where did he go? Why was he missing?
Wonder no more! As it turns out, Harold got himself trapped in another world, a cyberpunk world (which just so happens to be a floating island to fulfill one of the game jam's requirements), where artificial intelligence is in control of everything. But with that power and control comes the threat of other, rogue artificial intelligence rising up and taking control for themselves. When no one in the land of AI can stop the rogue threat, a hero from another land must be recruited. Not just any hero, though, the most legendary of all heroes: Harold!
As Harold, you will:
- Navigate AI Land: Travel through a vibrant cyberpunk world filled with bizarre AI quirks, from high-tech dungeons to neon landscapes.
- Engage in Witty Combat: Not really. But the monsters look pretty cool, though.
- Solve Ridiculous Puzzles: Can you outsmart the supreme intelligence of the Rogue AI?
- Collect Odd Items: Gather an array of strange and humorous items to unlock doors, access computers, and much more.
Key Features:
- AI-Driven Development: Experience a game that was largely created by AI, showcasing the strengths and limitations of machine-generated creativity.
- Humorous Narrative: Enjoy a light-hearted story filled with puns, jokes, and unexpected twists that keep you laughing throughout the adventure (or at least when I go off-script).
- Unique Skill System: Actually, there is nothing unique about the skill system.
- Meta-Commentary: Delight in a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, poking fun at the very process that created it.
- Visually Unique: Immerse yourself in a visually distinctive world created with AI-generated art, giving the game a unique and quirky aesthetic. Once you leave RPG Maker Land and travel to AI Land, all of the artwork [besides Harold] is completely custom.
About the Developer:
Harold's AI Odyssey was developed by Frogboy as part of the Harold Game Jam 2024. Utilizing the power of ChatGPT and other AI tools, the game stands as a testament to the capabilities and limitations of AI in creative endeavors. By turning the development process into a humorous adventure itself, this game invites players to laugh, explore, and enjoy the unexpected.

The game's tone was certainly random.
It felt like the whole thing was just a setup to lead into the Glinda punchline.
Thanks for playing! While the Glinda punchline is definitely the big setup and payoff, the entire game from start to finish is nothing but humor jokes intended to hopefully make you laugh or at least groan at times. When I originally thought of the idea for this game, this joke wasn't born yet. It just kind of evolved naturally from how the game and the jokes and bits that made it in developed.
I loved this!
Awesome! Glad you had a good time
Oh, cool! Gonna check that out.
Just so you know your able to sell the gold coins in your inventory and get the best gear at the very start of the game. Just thought I should let you know.
That's intentional.
Okay
